Process

The Oscar de la Renta 2002 Spring Ready-to-Wear collection displayed the modern working woman of the time. The beginning of the decade brought hope for change and renewal, but took a cultural shift due to the events of September 11, 2001.

Photos were taken from the presentation of the fashion show. The designer, de la Renta, made sure to include motifs like flags and flowers to represent the zeitgeist of togetherness during this period.

All writing was done in APA format, using proper fashion terms and styles in order to examine the aesthetic characteristics of multiple garments.
Within the paper, it was determined that both the cultural and aesthetic components of this era (and collection) mirror that of the 1920s, solidifying the zeitgeist of the time.
Outcome
This in-depth analysis of the collection allowed me to approach designs in a way that made me consider the past and how they affect the style and the silhouette of future garments. Oscar de la Renta’s style display feminine power, emphasizing the cultural shift towards the acceptance of women in the workforce.
